7000 – 2000 BCE
The earliest signs of people moving to Yateley are a Neolithic hand axe, found during the construction of Yateley School.
1287 CE
Three mills in the town are operated by John the Miller, Geoffrey the Miller and Ralf the Miller.
1349
An outbreak of plague kills roughly a third of the population.
1366
The Bishop of Winchester suspends the Chapel of Yateley after its parishioners are found guilty of assaulting Symon the Chaplain. They are “deprived of all spiritual ministrations till they have done penance”.
1605
Lord Monteagle, owner of Monteagle Farm is sent a letter warning him not to attend the opening of Parliament. He alerts the authorities, leading to the discovery of Guy Fawkes.
1901
Flora Thompson, author of Lark Rise to Candleford, works as telegraph operator at Yateley Post Office.
1927
Yateley Football Club is established.
1979
St Peter’s Church is badly damaged in a fire.
1983
The Dog and Partridge pub becomes the official headquarters of the Monster Raving Loony Party, a political party founded by ‘Screaming Lord Sutch’.
