7th Century

In the first written record, the manor of Sudtone is given to the wealthy Chertsey Abbey.

1086

Sudtone is listed in the Domesday Book.

Having abolished the abbey, Henry VIII grants the manor to Sir Nicholas Carew of Beddington.

1539

After having Sir Nicolas executed for treason, Henry takes back the manor.

1760

A stagecoach service begins running between London and Brighton, stopping at the Cock Hotel.
