A Very Short History of Sandhurst

1175

The first written refence of Sandhurst appears in tax records King Henry II.

1813

The Junior Division of the Royal Military College moves from Marlow. The rugged, heathland is perfect ground for training, with plenty of space to fire cannons.

1849

To serve the growing college, and in keeping with the town’s status, the railway arrives and a station is opened.

The Senior Division of the Military College expands the new site further.

1941

The college is merged with the Royal Military Academy of Woolwich and becomes the world’s leading military school.

1983

The town’s Tug of War team win the first of their world titles. As well as hosting the event, Sandhurst have been crowned UK champions on a further 6 occasions.

Young teacher, and future stand-up comedian and Taskmaster, Greg Davies is promoted to Head of Drama at Sandhurst School. He returns to both the town and school in 2012 to film his sit-com Man Down.
