Enfelde is recorded in the Domesday Book and home to 114 households.

Edward I grants a charter allowing a weekly market and two annual fairs.
1398
A chantry school is established, becoming Enfield Grammar School in 1558.
1551
King Edward VI builds Enfield Palace for his half-sister the future Queen Elizabeth I.
1632
Forty Hall manor house is built, it now houses the borough museum.
1803
The poet John Keats attends John Clarke's school.

The Royal Small Arms factory opens.
1869
The September fair is banned for becoming "a source of immorality and disorder, and a growing nuisance to the inhabitants".
