Nortone is mentioned in the Domesday Book and a castle built during the Norman Era.

1205

King John grants a charter making it a ‘chipping’ or market town, creating a thriving wool trade.

1549

After leading an uprising of his congregation against religious reforms, Vicar Henry Joyce is captured by Lord Grey de Wilton and hung in chains in his own church tower.
